O. Lee is Chair Professor of Digital Business and AI and Associate Dean at the Business School of Hong Kong Metropolitan University (HKMU). Prior to joining HKMU, Professor Lee was Chair Professor of Information Systems & E-Commerce at the City University of Hong Kong (CityU) from 2006 to 2025. He has a strong multidisciplinary background, holding a first-class honors bachelor’s degree in electronic engineering, an MSc in software engineering, a Ph.D. in computer science, an MBA, and two law degrees. He is the recipient of several prestigious University scholarships and prizes, including an IEE Prize and a College Scholarship from Oxford University, where he read for one of his degrees. Professor Lee is a qualified Barrister-at-Law in Hong Kong, England & Wales, a Chartered Engineer (UK Engineering Council), and a professional member of the British Computer Society. Professor Lee has a research and professional interest in IT-based innovation adoption and diffusion, knowledge management, electronic commerce, online social networks, online addiction, digital competence, and how AI is impacting on these areas. He is serving / has served as a member of the Hong Kong Productivity Council, the Hong Kong Deposit Protection Board, the Process Review Committee of the Hong Kong Monetary Authority, HK RGC Business Panel, and the HK UGC Working Group on Research Assessment Exercise Electronic System. Professor Lee was a former Chairman of the Hong Kong Committee for Pacific Economic Cooperation (HKCPEC) advising the HKSAR Government on relevant APEC-related economic and cooperation matters. He has over 2 decades of corporate governance experience at the board level as an independent non-executive director of enterprises listed on the main board of the HK Stock Exchange. Professor Lee has published over 200 refereed articles in leading international journals, conference proceedings, and research textbooks. His research has generated a substantial impact, as witnessed by his strong citation record. According to the "H-Index for Management Information Systems (MIS)" published by the University of Arizona in May 2022, Professor Lee ranks among the top 3 MIS professors in Asia. He is among the top 2% most highly cited scientists globally, according to a report by Stanford University (published every year since its inception), with a substantial citation count of over 38,700 and an h-Index of 83. Professor Lee is a recipient of the Research.com Business and Management in China Leader Award (3 years in a row from 2022 to 2024), being ranked as one of the top 10 best scientists in the field of business and management in China.
